🧠 What You Need To Know Before Creating A Custom GPT

Since Open AI had its 2023 Dev Day last week, Custom GPTs are looking like the next big thing when it comes to AI and they’re something you should pay attention to.

In less than a week, some insane community GPTs have been created and are already being put to use to accelerate others’ performance.

Since it’s my job here to bring you ways to accelerate yourself around content creation and business, I’ve put together a breakdown of custom GPTs and how to use them most effectively for yourself.

This will not be a step-by-step walkthrough on how to use custom GPTs, if you want that Skill Leap AI has a great video on it. I’m more of going to be talking about what you should think about when creating a useful custom GPT.

Before I give you a guide to create your own custom GPT and show you how to actually make money selling them, I want to give you my peace of mind on what to create and how to be unique:

I can see it already, everybody is gonna be scrambling to make the same thing. All the custom GPTs for sale are going to be doing the same thing in a slightly different way about a slightly different topic.

For example, there's gonna be a bunch of Alex Hormozi custom GPTs and Joe Rogan custom GPTs where they take YouTube transcripts and just copy and paste them into the custom GPT thinking that it will be popular.

Instead of doing what everybody else is gonna do you should think about doing something different whether it be using transcripts or lectures from something less popular, or something more within your niche.

Alright, now that I’ve got that out of the way, lets get into creating a Custom GPT.

You’re going to need a name/picture, instructions, and files for it to learn from. Aside from that, I have a few tips on what to think about when creating your GPT:

  1. Audience - The great thing is that I taught you how to target our ideal customer in the last newsletter, so you already know how to target the right audience.

But why should you think about your audience?

Simply enough, once ChatGPT’s upcoming GPT store goes live, the best GPTs are going to be featured there to be bought by the community, giving you the ability to make $ from it.

Like we discussed in the last email, if you want to target the right audience or sell a product effectively, you need to know who your audience is!

  2. Purpose - Your GPT needs to do something, most likely solve a problem. Remember the best and most sold products today solve problems.

Garbage-collecting companies don’t make money because they are flashy or look cool, they even stink! They make money because they sell one of the biggest problems: Trash.

If you want to sell your GPT or GPTs more, the best way to do that is to solve a singular problem with it. This is why knowing your target audience is important.

To recap, so far we’ve covered who your target audience is, and what problems to solve for them.

  3. Information - The #1 most important part of your GPT, and what makes it even work, is the information you give it.

Like I said previously, don’t be basic with it. You’re never going to have the same GPT as 30 other people and sell the most. Think about how Hormozi’s book is the only of its kind.

That’s exactly why it sells so much more than anything else: because it’s unique.

You need to find unique information, and maybe even information you pull from your own content or pose a specific stance with someone else’s content to make it unique and effective.

This stage is also when you can implement AI actions and combine AI tools within your GPTs knowledge base with a tool like Zapier for a more custom-tailored tool.

  4. Personality - One of the most distinct features of the GPTs is that it’s possible to give them a unique personality or perspective on the information you provide.

Just like I said previously, it’s possible to make your GPT unique with someone else’s information, and this is how you’ll do it.

As you build your GPT, it will ask you questions on what stance you want it to take, how you want it to respond to users, and other questions tailoring outputs.

These questions are your chance to hone in your GPT to be unique and extremely tactical for use by others.

Now I could bore you all day with exactly how to create a GPT to specific guidelines, but the whole point of custom GPTs is to see the community creations and be unique with them, as I said.

I’m going to leave you with these suggestions as I know they’ll be more useful for you to create your own unique GPT.

I hope you enjoyed this guide that’ll give you a good idea of how to brainstorm and create a custom GPT for yourself and for others.

tl;dr: You can use this Custom GPT Guide to create and sell your own Custom GPT.
